Better Understanding Our Animal Equals

Tip of the Week
Snails aren’t just for eating algae! Freshwater snails make wonderful pets as additions to many aquariums.  But remember, most snails do not thrive on algae and will need their diet supplemented with other goodies!  More info to come when the new Snail Care page is up!

The Scratching Post by Levi

Relief is On the Way!

"Itch, itch, itch! It’s all I do”

“Hello! You’re not the only one, Gordon. It seems ever since the days got longer we’ve been itching all the time. “Dad” put the oily stuff on our backs for the fleas months ago but now we are itchy again!”

“You know, Levi, I heard ‘Dad’ say that it was getting cold outside so he doesn’t need to use it anymore. I guess he just can’t tell that these fleas are still here. Sometimes I hear him say that since we never go outside, we shouldn’t have fleas. And we are cleaning ourselves so often that he never sees them on us.”

“He doesn’t see them, but we do. They are hiding in the carpet. And they come in from the outside on him just to jump on us. I wish he’d get more of that oily stuff that he gets at the vet’s office so we can stop itching.”

“Did you just say ‘vet’s office’?”

“I didn’t say we were going, Gordon. I just said I wish he’d go there and get the flea stuff. You know we don’t have to go in for that.”

“True, but I still hate thinking of that place.”

“If he could just get enough to last us until the big turkey dinner or when it gets white outside I think we’d be OK.”

“SSHHH! Here he comes!”

“Levi, Gordon, you be good kitties. I’m going to the vet to get you some flea prevention. I’ll be back in no time.”

“Thank goodness! Relief is on the way and we can finally get back to our lives of lounging around and sleeping the day away!”

“Says you, Levi. I’m getting into the cabinets and looking for a snack!”

“Gordon, you’re always getting into everything”

“Hey, what can I say, I’m a cat and I’m going to do what I want to do!”

Be sure to provide your pet with the flea prevention your veterinarian recommends and continue it for the amount of time that is recommended. Fleas are notorious for hiding out in carpets, in furniture, and in anything else they can burrow into. So, even though there may have been some cool weather lately, don’t let them fool you. Fleas are looking for warmth and will find their way in as soon as they can.

Using a veterinarian recommended flea prevention will not only give your pet relief, but can also protect the environment too, meaning helping to rid your house of fleas!
