The
Scratching Post by Levi Not Another Food Change! “UUUuuuugh!
I don’t feel so good!” “What’s the matter, Levi?” “I don’t know, Gordon, but I
think that food has something to do with it.” “What do you mean, that food was
great! I don’t know what
it was but boy, I sure did like it!
It was soft and had gravy all over it!
That’s my kind of meal!” “It was rather tasty then, but
now, I would be happy if I never saw it again.” “Oh, I see what you mean.
Kind of like when Mom and Dad eat a whole pizza for supper.
They really like the pizza while they are eating it, but
afterwards, they don’t feel so good.” “Now you’re catching on, Gord.” “My belly was hurting the last
time our food was switched. I
really liked that stuff that Mom said was the healthy stuff.
I mean, it didn’t taste like we were eating a big bowl of
treats, but at least our bellies didn’t hurt.” “Mom and Dad, and other cat
owners I am sure, need to remember that they just can’t switch our
foods all the time. The
healthy stuff may not be as yummy, although I really like the stuff we
get, but it helps us to feel better.” “Levi, you don’t look so hot!
Are you sure your going to be OK?” “Well, I just left Mom and Dad a
little gift on the carpet to let them know how I am feeling. Hopefully
they will get the hint and get us on a more regular diet.” “I sure am going to miss this
yummy gravy stuff! But
I’ll be happy to know that our tummies aren’t going to be hurting
after every meal.” “I agree, Gordon.
Not just because my tummy is more sensitive than yours, but
because over time, with so many food changes, you or Diablo might also
begin to have the same problems.” “Oh look!
Dad just threw out that food and they are heading back to the
store! Let’s go look for
a snack!!” Cats need a steady, high quality diet. Changing their food will only upset their stomachs and make them ill. Even if you currently frequently change your cat's food and he or she tolerates it well, overtime, they become less resilient and will have problems down the road. So stick to the same diet. If a change is necessary, it must be done slowly and gradually over time.
